Gecko Tattoos – Durability and Intuitiveness
When your friends tell you they're getting gecko tattoos, most likely they don't mean they are getting tattoos with the little guy from the insurance commercials. In today's world that's the image that is identifiable with a gecko, but in reality the gecko lizard has a lot more going for it than that, especially when it comes to a gecko tattoo.Because of the gecko's astute senses, the gecko has become symbolic with being psychic and intuitive. Specifically in the Native American tradition, a gecko is symbolic of dream time, a time when we're working in an unconscious state. The tattoo image of a gecko is encouraging people to follow their "shadow self," and people that are getting tattoos with geckos are usually the type to listen to their own intuition over someone else's.
Another characteristic identifiable of geckos is the idea of easy detachment from a situation and durability. Since the gecko lives in such dry conditions, it often needs to go for quite some time without a food source. Because of this, the gecko has an ability to shut itself down, and go into a period of being dormant until a food source becomes readily available again. With tattoos featuring a gecko, the person that wishes to get the tattoo often displays great durability – or wishes to – as well, just like the gecko.
There are many different types of people wishing to get a tattoo portraying a gecko that display those characteristics of a gecko's intuitiveness and durability, so because of this, there are many different types of tattoos that feature a gecko. Some of these tattoos can be quite cartoonish, almost resembling that little guy from the insurance commercials, while other geckos can be quite realistic or take on a tribal tattoo effect.
