Gang and Prison Tattoos, once limited to the gangs and extremists; are now growing worldwide to the liking of everyone. This is thanks to the beautiful designs behind the passionate ideology! In fact the impact these tattoos now have on the young fashionable middle class is unquestionable. Youngsters who may have no clue of these ideograms' original significance and meanings are now plainly having them tattooed on themselves, not knowing that they are originally worn by gang members and prisoners as symbols of reputation.

Gang and prison tattooing has always been in fashion among gang members and prisoners. Through those tattoos, the gangs and the prison extremists illustrate their serious faithfulness to their gangs. Thus Tattoos had in prison have unique significance back on the streets.

Most prisoners, who are racially divided, share affection for tattoos that identify their home towns. Many of the gangs in prisons across the world have close regional geographic attachment. A declaration of commitment to one town or another can surely incite a gang fight and may cost lives, proving how reputable the tattoos are.

At the same time, in some other cases, inmates who are of minority and less gang-organized find it more vital to stress a racial unity than to declare passion for their hometowns or for a certain gang. Often they have tattoos of crosses or swastikas indicating their faithfulness to supremacist groups.

It all started in Japan around 1500 years ago. Tattoos came to be associated with criminals as mark of punishment. Till now, tattoos have retained the old image of criminality in Japan. Also in ancient Rome they followed the same pattern by tattooing slaves with slogans such as "I am a slave who has run away from his master". Criminal tattoos are also in vogue in the Middle East. Such criminal tattoos are in fashion in countries like the US, Russia, Vietnam, Thailand and others and they are associated with mafia and criminals.
