It can be designed just for use as a tattoo, or it can be designed from a picture of a fairy, seen in children's or fantasy literature. Brian Froud and Amy Brown are two artists who are well known for works containing fairies Their fairy work would be quite suitable for a tattoo. You could have your tattoo artist base a fairy design off of one of these artists' renderings. A tattoo artist will most likely have sample tattoos with fairies in his shop. One of the most important elements of a fairy is its wings. Aside from that, fairies can either have human looking face and body shape, or they can look much more fantasy-like. Hair, eyes, teeth, etc., on a fairy are all given to the tattoo artist's taste and imagination, whether they look human or more in the lines of fantasy. Not all fairies are sweet and kind like Tinkerbelle though, as sometimes fairies can be quite malicious. Some think fairies symbolize being a free spirit. On a tattoo, a fairy can be drawn as a tiny design, and be located on the back of your shoulder, or on your lower hip. Or, the fairy can be part of a much larger scene, with a fantastic fairy realm tattoo taking up a whole section of the arm or back.
